Beatles band draws noise complaints The Kansas City Star The Olathe Police Department received about 10 complaints Friday night as Liverpool, a Beatles tribute band, performed at the city's summer concert series, said acting Police Chief Howard Kannady. Kannady said between 8,000 and 10,000 fans gathered at Frontier Park, 15501 Indian Creek Parkway, to hear the band sing classic tunes like "All You Need is Love." But all some sleepy Olatheans wanted was silence. The band was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m., but got a late start and didn't end until around 11:15 p.m., Kannady said. "This particular band generates a lot of excitement in our community," he said. Onlookers weren't screaming quite like Beatles' fans. The complaints centered around the loud music of the Fab Four fabricators, said city communications assistant Alice Snyder. The British-style pop songs weren't breaking any laws, Kannady said. Olathe parks don't close until midnight. "We strive very hard to stay onto the schedule, but it rained before the show started," Snyder said. "Everything was wet, and (crews) were out there with hair dryers drying the stage to make sure everyone was safe. The performers did cut short their performance a little. We did what we could to accommodate the residents." |
